It checks the binding of carbohydrates to the intestine receptors to enable the decrease of the absorption of sugar from intestine in to blood after eating. Other constituents like galacturonic acid, gymnemagenin, amino acids such as leucine also help in decreasing blood sugar and cholesterol levels by stimulating islet and beta-cells in pancreas for more secretion of insulin. Thus it exhibits an inhibitory effect on serum insulin and plasma glucose.

Methi/Fenugreek – Trigonella Foenum Graecum:

One of the best anti-diabetic substances used worldwide. It contains saponins known as graecunins. Disogenin with gitongenin and trigogenin, fenugrin B, fenugreekine, alkaloids like gentianine, trigonelline, sarsapogenin, c-glycoside flavones, lecithin, choline, proteins high in tryptophan and lysine, free amino acids are also present. Acts as appetite suppressant and gives a feeling of satiety soon in diabetics. Its components help lower blood sugar levels. Good source of minerals, vitamins also.
